Nancy Gyes has been involved in training for dog sports for the last 40 years. She was active in competition and pet obedience, tracking, and behavior counseling for pet owners before discovering agility in 1990. Since then she has been a full-time international agility instructor, competitor, seminarian and Coach.

She and her husband Jim Basic operate Power Paws Agility in San Jose, California. Nancy was the coach of the AKC/USA World Team from 1996 to 2024, helping Team USA bring home numerous medals. She herself was a member of the AKC/USA World Team seven times (four years with Scud and three years with Riot) and has been on the USA Team for the European Open three times with Ace, winning the bronze medal in 2009.
She wrote training articles for Clean Run starting in 1995, and has also written for Dog World and the AKC Gazette, as well as for international publications. She just release her Alphabet Drills Book 2 nd edition, and published a training book available in E format, Numbers and Patterns available at clean run.

Nancy also kept a blog for many years. Nancy and Jim and their dogs have won over 70 first-place trophies at national and world championship events. Nancy has won a total of 12 USDAA and AKC championships, and was the first handler ever to win four consecutive USDAA Grand Prix World Championships: Scud in 1998, Riot in 1999, Wicked in 2000, and Riot again in 2001.

Seven of her dogs have earned the USDAA ADCH: Scud, Riot, Wicked, Panic, Ace, Toast, and Winston. Scud was the 30" USDAA Grand Prix National Champion in 1998 and retired after winning the USDAA Performance Grand Prix World Championships in 2001. Riot won the USDAA Performance Grand Prix in 2004 and 2005, and the Veterans Grand Prix in 2006. Wicked, handled by Nancy’s husband Jim, finished in third place in the 2006 Veterans Grand Prix. Riot retired from national competition with two first places in the USDAA Grand Prix World Championships, two AKC National Agility Championships, two first places in the USDAA Performance Grand Prix, and one first place in the USDAA Veterans Grand Prix. Both Riot, Wicked and Ace completed the USDAA Platinum 500 Lifetime qualifying scores:

• AKC/USA Team member FCI World Agility Championships: Scud 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999; Riot 2001, 2002, 2003.
• FCI Agility World Championships: Scud 6th place overall, 1999; Riot 2nd place Individual Agility Large Dogs, 2001 and 1st place Individual Agility Large Dogs, 2002.
• USA Team member European Open Championships: Ace 2007, 2008, and 2009 Finalist; 2009 bronze medal. Ace was the first ever USA dog to make a podium
at the Europen Open.
•3 Time USDAA Dog Agility Masters National Team Champions: Wicked, Spy, and Trigger Scud, Mick and Dallas Riot, Nifty and Sunni
• AKC National Agility Champion: Riot 24", 2001, 2002.
• AKC Overall International Champion: Riot 26", 2002.
• AKC/USA World Team Invitational: Riot 1st place, 2003.

Nancy’s current dogs are Atticus Finch-Border Collie, Mockingjay- Border Collie/Jack Russell cross and Mojo border Collie
